A 10 Week VBS Strategy

Following is a suggested 10 Week VBS Strategy for the local church. Adapt and modify it to your church's schedule, then distribute it to all VBS workers. Review it weekly with the church in a public setting to remind workers of their commitment to the strategy.

A 10 Week VBS Strategy

Week 1: Sign up to work in VBS. Commit to the 10 Week Strategy. Pray for laborers.

Week 2: Plan to participate in local/associational VBS Worker Training. Pray for the ministry of VBS.

Week 3: Take part in your church's VBS Commissioning Service. Pray for other VBS workers.

Week 4: Pray for your own personal/spiritual preparation. Begin collecting items needed for your ministry in VBS.

Week 5: Participate in VBS Evangelism/Follow-Up Training at your church. Choose a Follow-Up Team partner. Begin praying together weekly for your combined efforts in evangelism and follow-up relating to VBS.

Week 6: Turn in any final supply lists/material requests to the appropriate staff member. Pray for the logistical preparations for VBS.

Week 7: With your Evangelism/Follow-Up partner, prayerwalk each location of VBS ministry. Use the VBS Prayerwalk brochure in the Administrative Guide for Directors CD-ROM as a guide.

Week 8: CONDUCT VBS!! This is the week - do your best and pray earnestly for God to work through you and others this week.

Week 9: This week and next week conduct the VBS Follow-Up plan to discover prospects and ministry opportunities. Pray for your team and other teams as they make these vital contacts with families that sent children to your church's VBS.

Week 10: EVALUATION. As you complete the Follow-Up process, spend some time individually or as a group of VBS workers talking about this year's VBS experience. Make notes about the victories, failures, problems, and proposed solutions. Make sure to spend time celebrating the awesome experience of God using you in His Kingdom work to reach families for Christ.

Notes: This is a proposed schedule based on our church's timeline leading up to VBS and including the immediate follow-up efforts. These events can be changed to different weeks based on the local church's own particular schedule. The emphasis is to get church members and VBS workers thinking, planning, and praying for VBS, and to keep them at it until the effort is completed. This may be seen as a variation of the VBS planning calendar; but it is more than just a plan. It is a guide for prayer and preparation that workers utilize weekly. The pastor can review that week's emphasis in each week's worship service to aid workers in keeping their focus on VBS ministry until the effort is completed.
